The Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI) is at the forefront of infection research, focusing on the study and control of infectious diseases. With a budget of 132 million euros in 2023, the HZI has gained crucial insights into the mechanisms that cause disease and influence human resistance. These insights have resulted in over 500 scientific publications and 81 patent families, positioning the HZI as a leader in translational medical research. Programmes to foster young scientists, such as the BioS school laboratory and the international graduate school, underscore the centre’s commitment to inspiring and educating future generations of researchers.
